Age UK covers scooters through home insurance

Age UK doesn't sell a separate mobility scooter policy. Its home insurance lets you add a scooter as a Personal Belonging, but not a Class 3 road scooter. Here's what that means, and the specialist alternatives.

What Age UK says

Personal Belongings, not Class 3

On its over-50s home insurance page, Age UK says mobility scooters "can be added to your home insurance, though will need to be added as a Personal Belonging. This will cover your scooter while you're away from home also. Class 3 mobility scooters are not covered because they can also be used on the road and must be registered with DVLA."

Personal Belongings is an optional extra, so check it's on your policy, what its limit is, and whether liability applies while you're riding. If you ride on the road, you'll need a specialist policy instead.

Published prices and limits from each provider's own website and policy documents, checked 6 October 2026. Prices are "from" prices: your quote depends on your scooter, its value and the cover you choose. "Ask" under Class 3 means the provider doesn't state it publicly, not that it's excluded. Trustpilot scores cover the whole company, not just scooter policies.

Questions

Straight answers

Does Age UK sell mobility scooter insurance?
Not as a standalone policy. Age UK's home insurance says scooters "can be added to your home insurance, though will need to be added as a Personal Belonging", which also covers them away from home. Class 3 scooters aren't covered because they can be used on the road and must be DVLA registered.
Who provides Age UK home insurance?
LV=, according to Age Co's insurance pages.
Is a specialist policy better than adding my scooter to Age UK home insurance?
For a Class 2 scooter kept mostly at home, home insurance may be enough. Specialist policies add liability while riding, personal accident, scooter hire and often breakdown, and they cover Class 3 scooters. Compare specialists →
